Dear Friend of Daniel Kids,

Daniel has been serving the most vulnerable children and families on the First Coast for 134 years. Throughout this long history, the agency has evolved to meet critical community needs in the areas of adoption, foster care, mental health, homelessness, and education. Despite many changes, one thing has remained constant, and that is our commitment to our mission to “improve the lives of children and families.”

Our success and resilience would not be possible without the support of passionate, dedicated community members. For this reason, we have established the annual Community Champion Award to recognize an individual who has tirelessly made it his or her personal mission to addressing the needs of those facing significant barriers to success. This year, we are proud to name John Hayt as our 2018 Community Champion.

Mr. Hayt is the retired chairman and CEO of EquiCredit Corp, the Jacksonville-based pioneer of the home equity lending industry. Since retiring in 1997, he and his wife, Gerri, have stayed busy continuously contributing time, talent, and financial resources to our community. They have been long-time supporters of the UNF golf program, financially supporting UNF’s Golf Learning Center, now named the Hayt Golf Learning Center. The UNF home golf tournament, among the premier NCAA tournaments in the nation, is now named the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational. In 2005, the couple established a $100,000 endowed scholarship for UNF student athletes. In addition to their own scholarship endowment, they have established a scholarship program in honor of UNF’s first golf coach, John Brooks. Hayt is also an avid supporter of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens and Daniel Kids.

Daniel is proud to honor John Hayt as the 2018 Community Champion for his enduring commitment to the Jacksonville community.
