The 16th Annual Foster Care Conference
"Footsteps to the Future"

May 6-8, 2009

A Pre-Conference Institute is being held on Wednesday, May 6th, one day prior to the start of the general conference. This all day, intensive session is offered with six CEU’s available!


Join other professionals in the social service field for a one-day seminar specifically developed for clinicians working with abused and neglected children and their families.


Featured Presenter:

Sue Badeau, has been a child welfare professional for 30 years. During this time, she has worked at every level in this arena, from direct casework to administration at the local, state and national levels. Most recently, she served as Executive Director of the Philadelphia Children's Commission, and Deputy Director of the national, nonpartisan Pew Commission on Children in Foster Care. As a policy consultant for child welfare agencies, organizations and foundations, she writes extensively on children's issues, and is a frequent speaker at conferences nationally and internationally. A Philadelphia resident, she and her husband have been foster parents to more than 50 children and have adopted 20 children from foster care, whom they have raised alongside their two biological children.


Program:

9:00 a.m. - Institute Begins

This pre-conference institute will incorporate understanding youth development, communicating with youth, engaging youth and person-centered planning and helping youth plan for a successful future.

Tapping the Fountain of Youth

This highly interactive institute will focus on the joys, challenges and unique opportunities involved when working with older youth in foster care. Topics to be explored include:

· Understanding Youth Development

· What does permanence mean for adolescents

· Effective strategies for engaging and communicating with youth

· Person-centered-planning as a specific approach to ensuring youth involvement in planning for their own future
