Project Prepare is an independent
living program serving homeless youth, ages 16-21. The purpose of the Project Prepare
Independent Living Program is to assist homeless youth residing in Duval County in transitioning from a state of
homelessness to one of social and economic independence. The primary goal of the two-year case
management program is
to strengthen the resilience of homeless youth by providing life skills
education and other supports necessary for stabilization. These Independent
living supports include: a three-six month residency at the
Independent
Village, mental health
counseling, employment assistance, and on-going independent living skills
instruction. To this end, youth are assisted
with securing stable housing, employment, and an education plan. The program operates on the premise that
all youth can be motivated by employing positive youth development strategies to
teach, guide, and support, rather than enable.
