Children Uniting With Parents (CUP)

Created to decrease the cycle of crime in our community, the CUP program consists of case management and therapeutic support for children of incarcerated adults.  The primary objective is to build positive family relationships between inmates, temporary caregivers, and the children through supervised visits.

Ages served: 7-15 years old

Referral source(s): State Attorney’s Office, Community Correction Division and River Region

Funding source: Juvenile Justice Department

Highlights: Eighty girls were served during FY 2002/2003; 27 were successfully discharged with the remaining clients still active in the program. The CUP program exceeded grant expectations on all goals and objectives, such as zero incidents of arrests or system involvement (juvenile justice). Ninety-nine percent of the girls in the CUP program maintained a 90 percent school attendance rate and over half of the CUP families improved scores on the parental bonding scale.
